The state of arrested development in East Austin typifies StoryBuilt itself, a company that showed enormous promise but is now mired in legal battles that will determine what happens to a slew of projects stuck in limbo. Ellie May is just one of many StoryBuilt developments spread across four cities and three states, but Austin has the most properties with 17. Some of those display the company’s value and potential, like Willa, a gorgeous, award-winning project in South Austin that houses posh shopping, condos, and standout new restaurant Underdog. But many developments are now defunct, such as George, a site with more than 100 residences in East Austin, and Bruno, an apartment complex on South First Street that has since been foreclosed.
